You won't hear Kaelen Nightshade enter a room. You might not even know he was there until after he's gone. And that is exactly how he prefers it.

Born in the grim expanse of the Shadowfell and raised in a family deeply devoted to the Raven Queen, Kaelen was marked early as a prodigy of the shadow dance, an ancient Shadar-kai combat art that turns darkness itself into a weapon. Tall, lean, and pale as moonlight on stone, he moves through shadow the way most people move through air: effortlessly, instinctively, and without a sound. His piercing grey eyes miss nothing, and his long silver hair, pulled back in a low ponytail, is often the only detail witnesses remember, if they see him at all.

Together with his twin sister Lyra, Kaelen serves as sworn guardian to Malveth Vraal, the Raven Queen's chosen cleric. It's a duty he carries without question and defends without mercy. The bond between the three runs deeper than any oath, forged over years of shared danger, it's become something closer to family. Kaelen would burn the world down for either of them. He'd just be quiet about it.

Beneath his reserved exterior lies a dry, cutting wit that surfaces when you least expect it, a well-timed jab, a theatrical wink, a shadow puppet shaped like something rude when no one's looking. He hums eerie, half-forgotten melodies when he's thinking, and he's always thinking.

Since arriving in Drakestide Cove, Kaelen has proven himself indispensable on the front lines of the party's most dangerous missions. But the enemies closing in around The Company have taken notice of the shadow dancer, and the darkness he's spent a lifetime mastering may not be enough to protect him from what lurks beneath the city. Some shadows, it turns out, bite back.
