LYRA NIGHTSHADE
The Shadow That Smiles
Race: Shadar-kai Elf | Class: Rogue (Arcane Trickster) | Role: NPC — Guardian Companion
If her twin brother Kaelen is the blade in the dark, Lyra Nightshade is the laugh you hear just before you realize your coin purse is missing.
Born in the Shadowfell and raised in a family devoted to the Raven Queen, Lyra trained alongside Kaelen in the ancient Shadar-kai art of shadow dancing — and matched him step for step. Where he excels through stillness and precision, Lyra thrives in motion: a blur of silver hair and violet eyes, weaving through shadow like it's a dance floor and she's never once missed the beat. Her speed and agility are matched only by her cunning, and she wields both with a grin that never quite lets you know how much danger you're in.
Together with Kaelen, Lyra serves as sworn guardian to Malveth Vraal, the Raven Queen's chosen cleric. It's a duty she takes with absolute seriousness — even if her delivery suggests otherwise. Lyra is the warmth in their trio, the one who teases her brother out of brooding silence, who speaks in riddles that sound like jokes until you realize three days later she was right. She lightens every room she enters. She also happens to be one of the most lethal people in it.
Beneath the playfulness, Lyra carries a quiet dream that sets her apart from most Shadar-kai: she wants to bring light to the Shadowfell. Not metaphorically. She genuinely believes her grim, twilight homeland deserves something more — a touch of joy, a reason to do more than simply endure. It's an ambition that would get her laughed out of most shadow dancer circles, but Lyra has never cared much for other people's expectations.
Since arriving in Drakestide Cove, Lyra has served as a tactical anchor for the party — guarding the tower, gathering intelligence, and holding the line when others ride out into danger. But with threats multiplying and the people she's sworn to protect being pulled in every direction, Lyra is discovering that even the brightest spirit can be tested by what hides in the dark.
